The Finals

With all the efforts, innovative experimenting and dediacted teamwork, dear folks, its our honour to finally introduce you ...ILLUMINATIONS!!!

Postproduction

The director of this part of the process is Mr. Tony Trimmer!

He made some fantastic title sequences...

... saved us time with figuring out the fake caustic effects...

....and added to misteriousness with particles and light rays playing in the water.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzmmmmm Sound

In search for the proper Bzzzzzzzmmmmmm sound- when lights appear we went form " fluorescent tube starting to fly and finally to ...rattlle snake sound!

As a major piece of background music we chose Carl Orff's xylophone song for school children.

Animating

Was a bloody job for our Director of Animation part Luisa...

To animate light balls in space demands not only a great feeling for animation, but also a lot of nerves, because every single move you make needs ages to check with redering!

To achieve the feeling of underwater environment Luisa used different mechanisms and animated floating leaves, shark yauk trembling, bubbles, houses,...and finally the shark.

Lighting

Lighting of the scenery was very complicated job. Anja had to do LIGHT LINKING to achieve the underwater scene with a slightly blueish foggy mayor light with all the depth map shadows (to increase visebility of bump mups) and soft warm lights for the houses, including the ones in light balls.

Envorinment modelled!

Getting together our work from the "modelling stage", that's what we got so far:

Thursday 1 November 2007

The platform

Although this is a bad picture it gives the feel we want for the platform which holds our house.

Build, build, build

From here onwards our motto will be build, build, build. See you at the light of the end of the tunnel.

It's all coming together

All our post production has led us to the point where we can start building the models. Plenty of drawings, and a feel quick tests to get us ready for the movie.

New tricks

As part of this project we have to learn a whole new range of new tricks listed below.

Interesting

Lighting

below is a good tutorial about Mental Ray Rendering, which is very useful to learn how to do these effects in Maya.

Story Story Story

We start with a black screne. In the middle one globe of light suddenly lights up, starting up like a fluorescent tube. Within seconds this globe is joined by several others.
One globe shoots off and the others remain frozen to the spot. It returns and the others then join the adventure.

We follow one light then another as our journey begins. Each globe sends out a blue light illuminating an area around it and start to see a strange new world full of alien structures. We never see the complete object but just a small percentage of the objects' surface.

We finally weave in and out of 3 translucent objects, and as we leave this scene we see movement in the centre of one of the objects before we then fade to black.

The globes finally arrive at an underwater scene with corals, and all sort of sea life. The scene is dominated by 3 structures which each are home to an aquactic house. this is revealed when one or two globes touch the structure and darkness is lifted from the environment leaving behind a beautiful view.

The lights shoot off again and we follow as before. First one then another. This time the globes give us a full tour of our new environment, and we see it in all its beauty. this time however we are not depended on the globes for light, but the whole scene is lit up from natural a light source.

We cut to a wide shot and the scene looks beautiful. Suddenly the whole scene stills and the lights and sea life go into hiding within the landscape. A shark's shadow then gluides over our scene and a reason is given for the change in mood. The shark passes and life returns.

The scene has return back to normal and we now see our globes rising from the landscape. They spin around and around finally crashing together and filling the screne with white light. ....titles.
